Audits the description (product_description) of every active product (seller and vendor) on the configured connection and marketplace. The description contributes to A9 indexation even when A+ Content is active, and is where the selling arguments that don't fit in the bullets are developed.

Generate descriptions with AI

Most description issues are best solved by rewriting the field. Use the bulk AI editing in the catalog to generate optimized descriptions that respect your brand, tone and language instructions.

When it runs

  • Default frequency: 1st of each month at 5:00 (workflow timezone).
  • Editable from the workflow editor once cloned.

How it works

The workflow iterates over every active product, evaluates the 8 checks against the description and creates or updates a task grouping the detected issues.

Checks

Missing description (D01)

  • Severity: error
  • What it checks: That the product has a description (product_description not empty).
  • Why it matters: Without a description, the listing loses a key section to convince the buyer and to index additional keywords. Even if you have A+ Content active, the text field still contributes to A9 indexation (see D07).
  • Amazon reference: Product descriptions.
  • Auto-fix: no — the bulk AI editing can generate descriptions from scratch using the other product fields.
  • Task message: "Product has no description. Without a description, the listing loses a key section to convince buyers and rank additional keywords."

Critically short description (D02)

  • Severity: error
  • What it checks: That the description is at least 500 characters long.
  • Why it matters: Descriptions under 500 characters provide no significant SEO value and convey carelessness. The average for competitive Amazon descriptions is 1000-2000 characters.

  • Auto-fix: no — the bulk AI editing can expand short descriptions keeping consistency with title and bullets.
  • Task message: "Description has only {length} characters, below the {minimum} minimum. Such a short description doesn't build trust or provide meaningful SEO value."

Suboptimal description (D03)

  • Severity: warning
  • What it checks: That the description is at least 1000 characters long.
  • Why it matters: A description between 500 and 1000 characters meets the minimum but leaves space unused. More complete descriptions index more secondary keywords and tend to convert better in categories that rely heavily on the description (books, electronics, home).

  • Task message: "Description has {length} characters, below the recommended {recommended}. A more complete description improves conversion and organic ranking."

Description too long (D04)

  • Severity: warning
  • What it checks: That the description does not exceed 2000 characters.
  • Why it matters: Amazon caps the description field at 2000 characters. Going over the limit causes Amazon to truncate the excess text and the buyer to miss information. It can also trigger automatic rejection on save.

  • Task message: "Description has {length} characters, exceeding the {maximum} maximum. Amazon will truncate the excess and buyers will miss important information."

Overlap with bullets (D05)

  • Severity: warning
  • What it checks: That the word overlap between description and bullets does not exceed 60% (measured with Jaccard over tokens).
  • Why it matters: Repeating content between bullets and description wastes space: A9 indexes each keyword once. The description should complement the bullets with distinct information (usage context, history, extensive technical specs).

  • Task message: "Description duplicates {overlap}% of the bullets content. Repeating information wastes valuable space that could be used for additional keywords."

External URLs in description (D06)

  • Severity: error
  • What it checks: That the description does not contain URLs (http://, https://, www.).
  • Why it matters: Amazon forbids links to external sites in any listing field. URLs trigger immediate suppression and serious account health warnings: Amazon interprets them as an attempt to divert the buyer off-platform.

  • Auto-fix: yes — removes all URLs and normalizes the resulting spacing.
  • Task message: "Description contains external URLs. Amazon forbids links to other websites and may suppress the listing or reject the changes."

Empty description with A+ active (D07)

  • Severity: error
  • What it checks: That the description is not empty when the product has A+ Content published.
  • Why it matters: Although A+ Content visually replaces the description field on the page, the description text still contributes to A9 indexation. Leaving the field empty with A+ active means losing an important SEO anchor. The rule is confirmed by Amazon's own A+ Content documentation.

  • Task message: "Description is empty but the product has active A+ content. Although A+ visually replaces the description, the description text still contributes to SEO indexing."

Promotional language or superlatives (D08)

  • Severity: warning
  • What it checks: That the description does not contain forbidden promotional phrases or unverifiable superlatives.
  • Why it matters: The same prohibition rules that apply to the title and bullets apply to the description: no "free shipping", "100% guaranteed", "the best", "premium quality", etc. Their presence can trigger automatic reviews and suppress the listing.

  • Task message: "Description contains promotional language. Amazon forbids promotions, discounts, or guarantees in the description and may suppress the listing."
