Costs and expenses
Access from: Profitability → Costs and expenses
Costs and expenses tells you which products have a cost, how much of what you sell is left without one and which ones to fill in first. While a product has no cost, its margin in the P&L looks higher than it really is.
For now it has one tab, Product cost. How to add the cost, one by one or from a file, is explained in Product costs.
Indicators
| Card | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Products with cost | How many products have a product cost, out of how many there are, and how many still have none. |
| Sales without cost | The gross sales of the last 30 days that have no cost, in your profile currency, and what share of the total they are. It is the same figure as the cost coverage of the P&L. |
| No cost, with sales | How many products sold in the last 30 days and have no cost. They are the ones that inflate the margin the most. |
In No cost, with sales, the See these products button leaves only those products in the table, with the Cost status filter set. While it is on, the button becomes See all products and brings the full table back; Clear filters removes it too. The cards do not change with this filter.
The cards follow the Connection, Country and Clusters filters, but do not change with the Cost status filter or with the search box.
Filters
- Connection, Country and Clusters, as in the P&L.
- Cost status: With cost, No cost or No cost, with sales. If you select several, you see the products that match any of them.
There is no period filter: the screen shows the cost that applies today and the sales of the last 30 days.
The table
There is one product per row, with the best sellers at the top:
| Column | What it is |
|---|---|
| SKU and title | The product. Clicking them opens its product page, in the Cost tab. |
| Connection and Country | The account and marketplace of the product. |
| Sales 30d | What it sold in the last 30 days, in the marketplace currency. |
| Product cost | The unit cost that applies today. If it has none, it shows No cost. |
| Shipping cost | The unit shipping cost that applies today. |
| Valid from | The day from which the product cost applies. |
| Origin | Where the cost comes from: Product page, File import, Purchases or Management system. |
The search box filters by SKU, ASIN or title. You can sort by SKU, title, Sales 30d, Product cost, Shipping cost and Valid from, and add the ASIN with Edit columns.
Only the products you manage in Epinium are listed, as in Products. Sales of the ones you don't manage here still count in the P&L and in Sales without cost.
Adding costs
- Many at once: the Import costs button opens the same file import as in the P&L. The steps and the file rules are in Import costs from a file.
- One by one: click the product to open its product page in the Cost tab.
Only users who can edit the catalog see the Import costs button.
Available on Business and Master
Costs and expenses is available on the Business and Master plans, the ones that include product cost. On the other plans it appears in the menu with a crown and, when you click it, offers you to upgrade.
From the API and the MCP
The cost that applies today to each product is also in the public API and in the MCP: /v1/products returns it in the cost field, and the cost_state filter keeps the products with cost, without cost or without cost and with sales, as the Cost status filter does. On Free and Guru, cost comes empty and the filter responds with a 403.
