WooCommerce Integration

Access from: Settings → Connections

Once you connect your WooCommerce store, your AI assistant can look up the store's catalog through the Epinium MCP. The connection is read-only: your assistant reads, but Epinium doesn't change anything in your store.

You don't need to create any app. Your store generates a read-only access key itself, and you approve, from your WordPress dashboard, that Epinium uses it. The process has two steps and takes a few minutes.

WordPress menus in your language

This guide names the WordPress and WooCommerce menus as they appear in English. Your dashboard will show them in your WordPress language, and some names may vary slightly between versions.

Before you start

  • Your store must use a secure connection. Its address must start with https:// and open in your browser without security warnings.
  • WordPress permalinks can't be set to "Plain". You change them in your WordPress dashboard, under Settings → Permalinks: any other option works.
  • Your store's REST API must be reachable. It's the channel WooCommerce uses to share data with other applications, and some security plugins block it.
  • You need to sign in to WordPress as the store's administrator. If someone else manages the store, have them at hand: they are the one who will sign in and approve access.

Step 1: check your store

  1. Go to Settings → Connections and click Add connection.
  2. Choose WooCommerce.
  3. In Your store address, type the address your customers use to visit your store, for example mystore.com. You can type it with or without https://.
  4. Click "Check store".

Epinium checks that there is a WooCommerce store at that address that meets the requirements. If anything is missing, it tells you right away, before opening anything in your store (the messages and what to do about each one are in Common issues).

If everything is fine, you will see the message "We found your store", with the address that will be connected. It may not be exactly the one you typed: if your store uses www. or is installed in a folder (mystore.com/shop), Epinium uses the address the store itself declares.

Step 2: approve access in your store

  1. Click "Approve in my store". A window from your store opens.
  2. Sign in to WordPress as an administrator, if you weren't already.
  3. WooCommerce shows you that Epinium - your account name would like to connect to your store with read access. Click "Approve".
  4. The window closes and Epinium confirms that the store is connected. Click "Finish".

On that screen, WooCommerce lists everything a read key allows in general: coupons, customers, orders and sales reports, and products. It's WooCommerce's standard text for any application that asks for read access. Epinium only lets your assistant look up what is described in What your assistant can and cannot read.

If you let a few minutes go by between step 1 and step 2, Epinium will ask you to check the store again before continuing.

Why your account name appears

WooCommerce shows the name of whoever asks for access. Epinium adds your account name so the person approving knows exactly who is asking. WooCommerce also saves it in the key's description, so later you will recognize the key in your store as Epinium - your account name - API (date). If you are an agency connecting a client's store, the name shown is that client's name in Epinium. If the person approving doesn't recognize the name, they shouldn't approve.

Alternative: connect with a key

If your store's window doesn't open, or after approving WordPress shows you an error page and the window never goes back to Epinium, you can connect by creating the key yourself in the store and pasting it into Epinium.

In your store: create the key

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API and click "Add key".
  2. Give it a description that helps you recognize it later, for example "Epinium".
  3. Choose an administrator user.
  4. Choose the "Read" permission: that way the key only allows looking things up.
  5. Click "Generate API key". WooCommerce shows you the consumer key (it starts with ck_) and the consumer secret (it starts with cs_). Copy them now: WooCommerce only shows them on that screen.

In Epinium: paste the key

  1. On Epinium's WooCommerce screen, type Your store address, the same as in step 1.
  2. Open the "Window not opening or showing an error? Connect with a key" panel.
  3. Paste the key into Consumer key and the secret into Consumer secret.
  4. Click "Connect with the key".

Epinium tests the key against your store before saving it. If it doesn't work, the connection isn't created and the screen tells you why.

If you come from an approval attempt that didn't finish, Epinium offers you the "Connect with a key" button, which takes you straight to this form.

What your assistant can and cannot read

Your assistant can look up:

  • The catalog: products and their variations, categories, tags, brands and attributes.
  • Sales reports, best-selling products and the store's totals (how many orders, products, customers, coupons or reviews there are, without seeing any specific one).
  • Reference data: countries, continents and currencies.

Your assistant cannot look up:

  • Orders, customers, coupons or reviews, because they contain people's names, emails or addresses.
  • The store's configuration: settings, taxes, shipping or payment methods.
  • The fields that plugins add to products. Some plugins store personal data there, so Epinium never hands them over, even though the key technically allows reading them.

Epinium doesn't write anything to your store: the key is read-only, so the store itself prevents any change.

Your data and the AI model

Epinium does not retain your WooCommerce store's data or send it to any AI model of its own. Your assistant looks up the store at the moment it needs to, and you choose and pay for the AI model you prefer, connecting it yourself.

Disconnect and revoke access

  1. In Settings → Connections, find your store in the list and choose "Delete" in its actions.
  2. Confirm. Epinium immediately deletes the connection and the keys it stored.
  3. To remove the key from your store too, go to WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API in your WordPress dashboard, find the key Epinium - your account name - API (date) (or the description you gave it, if you created it yourself) and revoke it.

Epinium can't revoke the key for you: WooCommerce only allows it from the store's dashboard. Until you revoke it, the key still exists in your store, even though Epinium no longer uses it.

If you connect the same store again

When you reconnect a store that was already connected, Epinium starts using a new key and the previous one stays active in your store. You can revoke the old one the same way.

Common issues

Cause: your WordPress permalinks use the "Plain" option, and with it WooCommerce can't complete the approval.

Solution: in your WordPress dashboard, go to Settings → Permalinks, choose any other option, save the changes and click "Check store" again. This setting changes the format of your pages' addresses: if someone else manages your website, let them know first.

"Your store needs to use a secure connection (https)"

Cause: your store opens with http:// instead of https://, or the address the store itself declares isn't secure.

Solution: enable the secure connection (the SSL certificate) from your hosting panel, or ask your provider to enable it. Once your store opens with https://, check it again.

"We could not reach your store"

Cause: the address is mistyped, the website isn't working or doesn't respond in time, or its security certificate isn't valid.

Solution: open the address in your browser and check that your store loads without security warnings. Correct it if needed and try again.

"We could not find WooCommerce at that address"

Cause: WooCommerce isn't active on that website, or a security plugin (or your hosting's firewall) blocks the store's REST API.

Solution: check under Plugins that WooCommerce is active. If it is, review your security plugins' settings and allow access to the REST API, or ask your hosting provider.

My browser blocks the store's window

Cause: your browser doesn't let Epinium open pop-up windows.

Solution: allow pop-ups for Epinium in your browser and click "Approve in my store" again.

WordPress shows an error after approving and the window never goes back to Epinium

Cause: the store couldn't finish handing the key over to Epinium. It's usually caused by a security plugin blocking the REST API or by hosting that doesn't detect the secure connection properly. When this happens, WooCommerce deletes the key and shows its own error page instead of going back to Epinium, so no half-created key is left in your store.

Solution: close the store's window and, in Epinium, click "Cancel". You will see the "Connect with a key" button: use it and follow the alternative with a key.

"Your store rejected the key" even though the key is correct

Most common cause: the key wasn't copied in full, it belongs to a user who isn't an administrator, or it doesn't have read permission.

Another cause: your store is behind a CDN or a proxy (for example, a service like Cloudflare) that receives the secure connection but doesn't pass it on to WordPress. WordPress then thinks the connection isn't secure and rejects the key, even though your store's address starts with https://.

Solution: first check the key, the user and the "Read" permission. If all of that is right and you use a CDN or a proxy, ask whoever manages your hosting to make WordPress recognize the secure connection that reaches it through that service, and try again.

I cancelled the access in my store

Cause: on the WooCommerce screen, access was denied instead of approved. Epinium shows it with the message "You cancelled the access in your store".

Solution: if it was by mistake, click "Check store" and "Approve in my store" again, and this time click "Approve".

The connection shows as "Disconnected" with the "Renew" button

Cause: your store no longer accepts Epinium's key. It happens when someone revokes it under WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API, or when the WordPress user it belongs to loses the administrator role or is deleted.

Solution: in Settings → Connections, click "Renew" on that store and repeat the setup: step 1 and step 2, or the alternative with a key. Renewing updates the same connection: it doesn't count as a new store on your plan.

"Your plan does not allow more connections"

Cause: each WooCommerce store counts as one connection on your plan, and you have already used all the ones it includes.

Solution: upgrade your plan from the notice shown on screen and try again. Renewing a store you already have connected isn't blocked by this limit.
